Oh, wow. I’m the first to comment?  What’s up with that? Maybe I shouldn’t b/c I’d be admitting any of the 29. Say, how about I add

#30 Because you don’t know how many subscribers your blog has!
#31 Because you have no clue about SEO and analytics
#32 Because you never use key words in your headlines
#33 Because you’re given +K for Cougar and Heavy Metal

Heh…I think all of the above are safe with me!!

  • Dan

#34 Because you have spam in your comments
#35 Because you are still using an image based CAPTCHA
#36 Because you have disabled comments

    #35 … and don’t now other alternative

  • Anonymous

#36 you use white text on a dark background and think it looks cool
#37 you use a template which means the text is in a really really narrow column and means you have to scroll down literally miles

#37 You only add a new blog post once in a blue moon
#38 You moderate every comment and take days to approve it
#39 You never engage with your audience in the comments (or elsewhere)
#40 You don’t promote your content (i.e. tweet once and call it a day)

I could go on and on! ;)

Definitely #38 ! This is a major issue which slows down a blog

Brilliant Heather! I’m not a fan of white text.

yes, nuke the CAPTCHA. Blogger is awful for commenting. I usually give up.

Another interesting perspective Stan. I guess bottom line businesses are in blogging to stay in business. Sure, they want to help, support and nurture strong relationships but without sales the business won’t go around.
Different bloggers, especially those in non-profit, are less likely to need the support of a tribe or army!

Not a bad list but there are still so many variables that make some of this harder to predict. Maybe I am lost in my own world, but my blog on blogger still receives a lot of traffic.

I would also argue that if you do a good job of building a community there is no such thing as writing too much or too often. Provide value and people always come.

Interesting to hear that your Blogger blog is doing great. Good for you. Have you got a custom design or a tweaked template? I think my comment was based on how awful those traditional templates look.
    Thanks for stopping by!

I’m not THAT much of a stickler for WP; even though it’s the platform I recommend, some damn fine blogs use Blogger, Typepad.. even Tumblr. That said Jon, WORD.

#4 is my FAVORITE. I get that FB and G+ now drive traffic and hits but I refuse to put all my eggs in their baskets. I’ve done one video and really intend to do more, but have not found the right post or content to fit that – yet. Think #13 & 14 are favorites, 2.0 – audience, gotta know who you’re blogging for and why. To #26 I’ll add: you think to highly of your sense of humour – and writing, wisdom, everything else. #29 LOL. FWIW.
