I’ve been blogging every day about the litter of basset pups I’m currently rearing. It’s a bit of fun documenting the growing litter but it’s also about marketing the pups. And blogging as marketing really does work.
Putting up a picture everyday I’ve generated interest and, perhaps more importantly, made lots of new contacts interested in bassets. Some of these people who’ve been following the blog will even go on to buy one of the pups (although I’d love to keep them all !!!!).
Having posted every day this time around, I’ve realised that it’s a better way of getting closer to people interested in the pups. I’d certainly recommend other dog breeders try it out. Let’s face it, websites are important to dog breeders to showcase what they’re doing and the pups they have for sale.
What I like most about a daily blog like this is that it tells the story of the litter. From talking to people on the phone and via email, I can see people also like seeing the story of the litter unfold.
What I Learned
What I’ve learned from this experience is that it’s important to stick to blogging daily, no matter what. I haven’t written every day on this site because I decided to limit the amount of time I put into Jontus Media.com per week. But posting more regularly at bassethound.nu has been really successful AND I’ve enjoyed it.
I’ve also realised that pictures can keep a blog going, even thought they’re not necessarily ideal for search engine optimization (SEO).
Once the dust settles down and I have a bit more time (i.e. when I’ve sold the pups in three weeks time) I’ll be reassessing how I blog at Jontus Media.com. I think basset blogging has opened my eyes to communicating more effectively and directly.
