Affiliate Marketing and Your Business Site

I have never really believed that including affiliate marketing links was the right move for this site. After all, I didn’t want to water down the services my company offers.

My thought was that the presence of affiliate links would undermine the credibility of my business. In particular, I’ve long resisted the tendency some small businesses have to put affiliate banners in their sidebar.

However, in early February I decided to add a couple of affiliate links to the most popular post on this website.

Within a month and a half these links have generated sufficient income to, say, cover my hosting, project management, and CRM costs three times over. If it continues I’ll be able to invest in some lighting equipment I’ve identified will help take my videocasts to the next level.

In this show, I discuss whether and how businesses should use affiliate links.

Where Should You Put a Newsletter Sign-Up Form ?

This episode of the Online Marketing & Communications podcast looks into more depth at the issues raised in my blog post Digital Marketing isn’t for Cowards.

I talk about my motivation for introducing a pop-up email newsletter sign-up form on the site and the effect it had on the bounce rate.

The aim here is to encourage you to turn your defeats to victories and embrace a willingness to fail. Digital marketing strategies that online marketing consultants and agencies espouse are not a recipe that you can follow. They are recommendations; a starting point for you to enter the market.

If digital marketing success was as easy as following a series of best practice guidelines we’d all be swanning around the south of France, putting our feet up.

How to Use Email to Set Up a Sales Funnel

I hope you are inspired by this episode to try using email auto-responders to sell your products and services.

I’m not talking about an ongoing newsletter here; instead, the focus is on a series of emails delivered over a short period of time: for example, less than a month.

Last year I launched an ebook about podcasting. The most successful sales campaign I’ve run for it has been the “free premium tips” I’ve offered by email. Subscribers receive 5 podcasting tips and on three occasions are invited to buy the ebook.

I recently launched a new Digital Marketing Audit for small businesses and once again I’m using a similar technique to help generate customers, although this time I’ve added a new ingredient to the mix, which I discuss on the show.
