Is Twitter beginning to struggle ?
Silly headlines aside, it does look like the air has gone out of Twitter a little if Hubspot’s State of the Twittersphere Report is anything to go on.
After all the hype of celebrities getting on Twitter and business users beginning to explore the channel, Hubspot’s detailed report suggests the users aren’t making the most of Twitter:
- 79.79% failed to provide a homepage URL
- 75.86% of users have not entered a bio in their profile
- 68.68% have not specified a location
- 55.50% are not following anyone
- 54.88% have never tweeted
- 52.71% have no followers
What about Swedes on Twitter?
The list of Top 20 Locations where people are twittering does not include anywhere in the Nordic region but that’s not to say there isn’t an active Swedish community of Twitter. In terms of population size we can’t compete with major US or European cities.
Still, check out the #svpt hashtag for people tweeting from the Stockholm capital.
Twitter Still Providing Value
On a purely anecdotal level, I can see there’s been a slight decline amongst the people I follow with the same people tweeting repeatedly throughout the day.
Still, that’s not affecting the quality of information I’m getting. From my own point of view it “feels” like the noise / quality ratio of tweets is actually quite good and I’m picking up links to key information that helps me in the work I do. It’s also helped drive more traffic to both this website and my kennel website.
More important than that, I would say it’s helping me make better connections with people. I now know more people in the Stockholm region working in related fields to me. And I also managed to find someone to interview for an article in response to a Tweet last week.
Are you posting more or less on Twitter now? Why? What’s happening?

Well honestly I’m not much on twitter these days either but am lots more on facebook where I can still see most of my contacts tweets and react there.
It started with having a social media break when being sick recently, then had lots of work to do and no time and now I’m really struggling to get back into it…
Interesting comment, Nette. I’ve missed you on Twitter but we’ve still “talked” via Facebook.
I’m not such a Facebook fan to be honest. It’s so messy. FriendFeed makes it easier to follow the flow of updates.
I noticed your were posting with your company account on Twitter a little more though. Is that a conscious thing or what?
Nice to know I’ve been missed.
Thanks for that!
Posting from my private or my agency account depends on the situation. My private one is mostly used for art, nettesite and a-ha stuff whenever there is something to say about that. I cannot handle to tweet at the same time from both accounts so I give @schwindtpr priority most of the time.
I don’t find facebook messy though. I’m currently introducing to facebook in my German agency blog, maybe I should translate the whole thing to English to convince you too?
Definitely like to see something to recommend Facebook more. It just bothers me immensely although friends respond because my Tweets show up there.
