Karen Fewell shares a really intriguing social media story this week on the Online Marketing & Communications Podcast that illustrates just how seriously companies are taking Twitter.

I enjoyed listening how some businesses (or people within them) use social media to strengthen their reputations. One reflection I’ve had is that Karen mentions cases that are easier to handle – business that already have some form of social media presence and put it to good or bad use.
Here in Poland you’d often face situations where businesses (both big and small) don’t use social media. If you say to them “But people are probably talking about you on the web. It’s time you joined that strengthen” they often say “We’ve been monitoring it and our brand doesn’t get mentioned often enough for us to bother”. And they are often right! This type of situation is more challenging – setting up and executing a strategy of getting people to talk to and about your business on social media in a way that is commercially sustainable.
Wonder if Karen’s dealt with such cases?

That’s a really good point, actually. I’d be curious to hear Karen’s take on that.
