1) Is Headway Any Good?
Several customers have been increasingly asking about Headway – and Danny Brown always talks it up – so I decided to get my hands dirty first with a test site, and then with my very own blog.
It’s extremely easy for newbies to use – as long as you watch the training videos. But if you’ve got a bit of coding experience you’ll get it very quickly. It took me about an hour to convert my existing installation of Thesis to Headway and included some nice tweaks.
The BIG advantage of Headway is that you can make every page on your site look different. This is incredibly useful is you’re making landing pages or trying to improve your calls to actions.
So, yes, Headway is pretty good. For start-ups and small businesses looking to launch a blog without investing massive resources I’d give it a go.
2) Does Apture Slow Your Site Down?
I’ve been using Apture on this site for three months now, tracking its effect on the site. Whilst it keeps about 100 people a week longer than they would have stayed otherwise, the key benefits seem to be the number of posts shared on Twitter or by email.
One downside, however, is that it does impact on page load times. Using Google’s Webmaster Tools I had a look at site performance over the period and could see a slight increase in page loads since I introduced Apture.
With Google taking page load time into account when it comes to where they place sites in search results, Apture will need to improve.
For the time being I’m happy seeing people stick around longer and getting a clear overview of what people actually search for on my site.
3) Is the new “Premium” site from Internet Marketing Podcast worth it?
A few weeks ago Kelvin and Co launched a paid service to tie in with the hugely successful internet marketing podcast. Each day Kelvin sends out a link to some excellent premium content dedicated to showing you what’s happening at the cutting edge of internet marketing.
Subscribers have access to dozens of hands on practical screencasts, downloadable best practice guides to all the different internet marketing disciplines as well as access to exclusive live chats with the team.
Although it can be difficult trying to keep up with the daily material, it’s now available to watch on your iPhone/iPad so you can enjoy it as you commute to or from work. I personally tend to save up the episodes and gorge on them over the weekend!
Whether you’re new to internet marketing or looking for inspiration about how to run a premium content service, this is one site to definitely check out.
