Respond Effectively & Communicate

communicate

Why don’t businesses respond effectively when people are looking to spend money?

It’s like when I told the Volvo dealer I really wanted to buy a Volvo but I needed to convince my partner it was better than a Toyota. The dealer couldn’t give me one reason to buy the Volvo, so we bought the Toyota. Del Boy would have turned in his grave because that’s a lot of money he lost. I’d practically handed him the sale on a plate.

Respond Promptly

Then there’s the stacks of money some relatives of mine are trying to spend, looking to hire a house in Stockholm for a year. It doesn’t matter if you call or mail housing companies about the properties we’ve looked at; they all take days (and repeated calls and emails) to respond and then they barely show you that they want your custom.

If there’s one thing your business needs to know, it’s how to respond effectively.

If someone comes knocking, looking to buy your services or goods, respond promptly and courteously. Don’t just hand them a slice of silence.

Return calls. Reply to emails. Even if it’s just to say when you’ll have time to respond properly.

Silence tells your customer you’re not prioritising them. You’re too busy to care. Or perhaps you’re not worth purchasing something from.

A hurried, curt response is just as bad. It can damage you just as much as silence. even more, perhaps.

If you need two days to figure something out, tell the customer.

Dear Jon,
Thanks for your inquiry about leasing Big House in Täby. We need to check a couple of details with the owners before we can get back to you and set up a meeting to discuss the contract.

I’ll respond by 12 PM Thursday.

Many thanks for your interest in leasing through our agency.

At least that way Jon knows what’s coming.
